Dani Kaiserman graduated from UCLA School of Law in May 2015 as a member of the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy. During law school, Dani worked at the Department of Justice-Disability Rights Section, AARP Foundation Litigation, and clerked for the Supervising Probate Judge Maria E. Stratton at Los Angeles Superior Court. She also co-chaired El Centro Legal, a student network of fourteen legal-aid clinics that serve low-income community members. Dani received the Masin Family Academic Excellence Award for her academic achievements in her Elder Law course.
Since August 2015, Dani served as the Bet Tzedek-UCLA School of Law Elder Abuse Law Fellow in Los Angeles. Bet Tzedek Legal Services (Bet Tzedek) has one of the largest public interest elder law practices in California. At Bet Tzedek, Dani represents low-income clients seeking elder abuse restraining orders, conservatorships, and advanced planning documents. She specializes in financial elder abuse, assisting victims and educating consumers about financial scams.
As a 2016-2017 Borchard Fellow, Dani will continue her work at Bet Tzedek. She will focus on expanding legal services provided to victims of financial elder abuse through litigation, negotiation, and outreach to local law enforcement. Her project aims to address the gap in services for low-income victims of financial elder abuse.
Prior to law school, Dani worked as the program manager at the National Academy on an Aging Society, a non-profit in Washington DC that focuses on aging policy. In this role, she led advocacy efforts to fund the Older Americans Act and other legislation improving the lives of older adults. During college, she worked as an assistant activities director at a Los Angeles nursing home and as an intern for the Geriatric Health Center at Olympia Medical Center in Los Angeles.
