Adrienne Lyon Buenavista

2013-2014

Adrienne Lyon Buenavista graduated cum laude from The Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law in May 2013. During law school, Ms. Buenavista worked at AARP Legal Counsel for the Elderly, the American Bar Association’s Commission on Law and Aging, and Columbus Community Legal Services. All of Ms. Buenavista’s legal work has been in elder law, and she is particularly dedicated to long-term care and independent living issues.

As a 2013-2014 Borchard Fellow, Ms. Buenavista once again joins AARP Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) in Washington, DC. She will collaborate with two of LCE’s divisions—the DC Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program and the Alternatives to Landlord/Tenant Court Project—to enable vulnerable, isolated, low-income seniors to age-in-place by addressing their unmet legal needs. Ms. Buenavista will provide legal services to older adults to help them overcome physical, behavioral, or cognitive impediments to remaining in the community. Additionally, she will train long-term care ombudsmen and community social workers to identify and refer clients’ developing legal issues as early as possible.

Ms. Buenavista’s project combines her passion for aging issues as well as her experience in housing; she has worked in housing issues from the design, policy, and legal perspectives. Prior to law school, Ms. Buenavista received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The University of Michigan and a Master of Architecture from University of Virginia. She worked as an architect for two years in suburban Washington, DC before attending law school.
