Jennifer Marshall

2012-2013

Jennifer Marshall graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in May 2012.  She attended the University of Alabama for her undergraduate studies, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in General Business Studies.  While in law school Jennifer volunteered as a Medicaid Long Term Care Ombudsmen for West Alabama.  Jennifer also volunteered with the Public Interest Clearing House Senior’s Rights Clinic in Melbourne, Australia. Jennifer earned a Public Interest Certificate, Dean’s Community Service Award, Order of the Samaritan, and the 2011-2012 Outstanding Clinic Student Award.

Jennifer has worked for the University of Alabama School of Law Elder Law Clinic for over a year handling cases from home repair fraud to Medicaid eligibility to advance planning.  The Elder Law Clinic provides free legal services in seven west Alabama counties.  Many of the clinic clients would not have the opportunity to seek legal advice and counsel if the Elder Law Clinic were not available.

As a 2012-2013 Borchard Fellow, Jennifer will continue her work in the Elder Law Clinic by representing older clients in legal matters.  She will also conduct research, investigate and draft legislation to reinstate grandparent visitation rights to Alabama seniors.  Jennifer will consult with legislative partners and potentially draft legislation to be considered by the Alabama Legislature to protect the rights of Alabama seniors to establish and maintain relationships with their grandchildren.
