Anne Armistead graduated from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in May, 2005. Prior to attending law school, Anne worked as a bilingual Civil Rights Compliance Officer for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office in Phoenix from 1999 through 2002. She received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in 1999, majoring in Biological Psychology and Spanish. She studied abroad living in Lima, Peru, Madrid, Spain and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During law school, Ms. Armistead interned with SeniorLAW Center, the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia, Community Legal Aid Society, Inc., the Defender Association of Philadelphia and the Camden County Public Defender’s Office. She was also a Note/Comment Editor for the Temple Political and Civil Rights Law Review and a member of the Women’s Law Caucus.
As a 2005-2006 Borchard Fellow, Anne is the staff attorney at SeniorLAW Center for the Seniors As Parents Family Law Project. Her project focuses on providing both English and Spanish-speaking seniors raising minor children with greater stability in their homes. She achieves this objective through the provision of legal services, referrals, and community legal education in their own language and in their own community. Ms. Armistead’s areas of practice include custody, visitation, standby guardianships and medical consent. She also provides legal representation in the general areas of housing, personal planning, consumer protection and other domestic issues.
In addition to direct legal services, Ms. Armistead is developing a Best Practices Handbook for attorneys and other service providers of senior kinship caregivers. The Handbook will include resources for senior kinship caregivers, as well as information about the needs of kinship care households, and possible funding sources for kinship care projects.
