2025-2027
Alexis Fulton graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2022 with bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Studies and Sociology as well as a minor in Peace and Social Justice. During her undergraduate studies, Alexis developed a strong commitment to public interest advocacy which led her to pursue a career in law. She began her legal education at Florida State University’s College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctorate in 2025. Her academic journey in law has been shaped by her passion for advocating for vulnerable populations, particularly within the intersection of Elder Law and Victims’ Rights.
Throughout law school, Alexis served as the Law Student Pro Bono Coordinator for Legal Services of North Florida (LSNF), where she supervised and trained law students on LSNF’s pro bono opportunities, advocating for the importance of pro bono work, and overseeing law students at pro bono clinics. Her leadership in this capacity helped to expand access to legal assistance within the region while empowering law students in their capacity to positively impact the community. In addition to her work with the Pro Bono department, Alexis was a Certified Legal Intern in LSNF's Victims' Rights department, where she represented clients in protective injunction hearings under the supervision of staff attorneys. This hands-on experience in domestic violence cases allowed Alexis to directly assist survivors in seeking legal protection and navigating the judicial process.
Alexis also worked as a student advocate and research assistant in Florida State University's Claude Pepper Elder Law Clinic, where she collaborated with the Office of State Courts Administrator to create a Florida Elder Domestic Violence Benchbook and accompanying informational video. This benchbook serves as a vital resource for the judiciary and legal professionals, providing guidance on how to address the unique challenges faced by elder survivors of domestic violence, including issues of vulnerability related to cognitive decline, interpersonal violence injunctions, guardianships, advance directives, and financial exploitation.
As a 2025-2027 Borchard Fellow, Alexis Fulton will develop and lead a collaborative clinical project within Florida State University’s Claude Pepper Elder Law Clinic, in partnership with Legal Services of North Florida (LSNF). This initiative will provide critical legal assistance and advocacy to elder survivors of domestic violence, a group often overlooked in traditional domestic violence interventions. Alexis will supervise law students in handling family law cases, including interpersonal violence injunctions and dissolutions of marriage, while also addressing housing, consumer rights, involuntary guardianships, and advance directives. The project will integrate direct client services with educational outreach to raise awareness about elder domestic violence and its legal protections, collaborating with community organizations, legal professionals, and the public.
