Welcome to 2024-2026 Borchard Fellows in Law & Aging

The Albert and Elaine Borchard Foundation Board of Directors are delighted to announce the 2024-2026 Borchard Fellows in Law & Aging. They are Wenrui Chen and Nicole La Roque who will begin their fellowships in the fall of 2024. Congratulations!

Wenrui Chen will be hosted by the Evelyn Frank Legal Resources Program (EFLRP) at NYLAG, where she will lead a project representing and expanding English and Mandarin legal services related to Medicaid and Medicare for older Chinese American New Yorkers and their caregivers, seeking to address the current justice gap in civil legal services for the Chinese American New York community.

Nicole La Roque will be hosted by the Florida Health Justice Project where she will expand its efforts to promote the well-being of low-income older adults requiring a nursing home level of care. Through a tailored multi-pronged advocacy approach, Nicole will collaborate with partners throughout the state to expand access to HCBS for low-income seniors, tackle systemic and administrative barriers to HCBS access, reduce inappropriate nursing home discharges, and increase legal representation for seniors in Medicaid and nursing home discharge fair hearings.

Since the fellowship program began in 1999, the Center on Law & Aging has awarded fellowships with the goal of providing substantial support and guidance to new lawyers dedicated to advocating for the legal rights of and improving the quality of life for older adults, including those who are poor or otherwise isolated by language, culture, lack of education, disability, or other barriers.

Please join in welcoming these two wonderful new advocates for older adults to our ranks as Borchard Fellows.
